Didn’t beijing receive their bid in 2006? Why is the london decision coming so early, be fore the 2008 olympics are even over? How are the olympic locations decided on and at what intervals are they decided; always this early?

We were chosen three years ago back in 2005.
Beijing was chosen for 2008 in 2001. Get ya facts straight, son.
Um, Beijing was selected all the way back in 2001…..
Why do they it so early? Idk, maybe so people know where they are going years in advance….
EDIT: I guess they choose it early so they can prepare
because london is awesome. simple as.
beijing got in 01… O_O
they need to get prepared, buildings need to be made etc, so lots of warning is needed for that
wheey london 2012!
the decision for London came a day or two before the London Bombings, the year that was in. we all knew it was gonna be in Beijing since before Athens tho so it is probably cyclical
cause them brits bribes the olympic comittee with their fish and chips, tea, and the kicker was when they said jolyho
The beijing ones were not chossen that late.
And people need time to build and plan the stadium ect.
After all in China to build their bird nest stadium they destroyed and made people homelss without giving them compensation
If London is better prepared then terrible things like that wont happen.
People vote on the locations. Not general public how ever.
Beijing got elected in 2001 and london im sure got elected in 2004 maybe 2008
We were chosen ages ago just had a lil trouble with it a bit ago but it is now rightfully ours and it very well should be :P.
The Olympic venue is always chosen a few years in advance to allow the chosen city to get ready for the Olympics. It takes a lot of money to plan and to build new stadiums, etc.
that freaking blows… i wanted chicago to have it.
They are talking about what cities are up to have the 2016
That will be decided soon
It was chosen this year because London needs to build buildings to hold the game in. They need to have pools, tracks, gyms, etc built. They can’t build this in a day so they need time for preparation.
Well london was chosen in 2005 and beijing was chosen in 2001 because the olympics are every so often.
They choose them so early for many reasons. The main ones are so that people have time in advance to purchase their plane tickets, and so that the athletes know where they are going to be completing which they need to know for practice. Because they need to know the environment that they are going to be competing in.
For example, if they are competing in a place with high altitude they need to practice what they do in high altitude to assure that they can complete their performances in that climate.
Beijing was chosen in 2001. They knew that they were going to Beijing by 2004. It is done that early so the city has time to prepare. Hosting the olympics is a MAJOR to do. Many times, the cities build entirely new facilities in order to host each event. It is a huge undertaking. They decide them that earl so they have time!
The countries need several years to prepare for the games. There is no way that huge “bird’s nest” stadium could have been built if China only had a couple years notice. They are already planning to pick the sites for the 2014 and 2016 games later this year.
The Olympic games were awarded to Beijing after an exhaustive ballot of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on July 13, 2001. — Wikipedia
On 6 July 2005 at its 117th Session in Singapore, the IOC awarded the London Bid with the rights to host the Games of the XXX Olympiad. — Wikipedia
It would be impossible for any city to organize the Olympics in two years.
EDIT: Two years ago in China, five years after getting the bid, construction was already under way and not completed.
What are all these thumbs down on verifiable dates?
I don’t know, but look at the 2012 Olympics logo for London! It’s funny! I think it looks like something a little kid drew! Doesn’t it? Look at it! Ha!
I was hoping for Chicago or even Tokyo. Imagine how hi-tech it would be if its Tokyo that will host the olympics.
Olympic cities are chosen 7 years in advance. Sydney in 1993, Athens in 1997, Beijing in 2001, London in 2005. The host of the 2016 event will be announced next year, in 2009, from a shortlist of Rio, Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago.
I personally hope it goes to Rio as it has never been held in South America, although Rio got the lowest score from the IOC out of those bids, with Tokyo scoring the highest.
In July 2001,the IOC selected Beijing as the host of the Summer 2008 Olympic Games. Beijing was selected over Toronto, Paris, Istanbul and Osaka. The International Olympic Committee decides on the location of the Olympics from bids that are submitted by any city interested in hosting the Olympics.. London was chosen in July of 2005. The announcement of the 2016 Olympics will be in October of 2009. It appears that the decision is made seven years prior to the Games..
Beijing 2008 was chosen in 2001
London 2012 was chosen in 2005
The 2016 summer Olympics is set to be chosen 2009
So always 7 years ahead. And lots of prep time is needed for organizing and construction.
Those who want the games have to submit a comprehensive bid that goes through a long process and the finalists are voted on by IOC delegates.
Beijing first submitted in the early 1990’s, lost went and regrouped and resubmitted.
After the Beijing Games, the host for 2016 Olympics will be chosen in 2009. This is because the IOC give the host city enough time to get ready for the Games in terms of building venues and planning.
No, Beijing was awarded the games in 2001. I think 7 years is an appropriate period for a city to get ready for the games.
Though preferably , Olympic games should be held in every continent on rotation basis. However countries in Latin and South America as well as Africa are finacially and logistically not ready yet to host such a big event. Therefore at present, the games is being held in North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. This year’s game is in Asia (Beijing), next games will be held in Europe (London). If Rio De Janeiro could impress the IOC members with their bid, the city will surely be the front runner for the 2016 games as Olympic games has never been held in South America yet. It is unlikely the games would be held in Europe consecutively, so Paris (France) will most probably be eliminated. There is a little chance for Tokyo (Japan) to host the 2012 games but because it is so close to the Beijing games, Tokyo being an Asian city would not be the most favorable choice. In the end, for 2012, it depends on how strong the bid of Rio De Janeiro as IOC is going to favor a south american city hosting the game for the first time.
Personally i feel Rio De Janeiro is not ready yet. The city is not that finacially strong and lacking of infrastructure
