Emily K asked:

I am from Canada and I hope to teach in London/UK for about two years. I am not from the area and have been trying to research affordable, yet liveable areas. I have been looking at flatshare websites, but I just don’t know the areas well enough to understand the locations properly. Also trying to determine if the price is right is also difficult without knowing what a going rate is for a shared flat.

I will be doing some teaching supply so I need to be able to get around the city rather easily, so as close to a tube station would be best!

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

You should focus more on areas in the west/southwest side of London, this way you can get more areas you like. There are some areas in the east side but the good ones are more spotty. Perhaps the best way to do it, is to move here and get a place where you can stay weekly or very short term, so you can get more time to explore and decide which areas you like better.

The best websites to find properties are…..

The rates for the flats vary widely from one area to another, even from one street to the next. If you check the websites they have information and maps where you can check how close to the tube or train station these places are.
