   ok now please bear in mind that I have been out the country for 4 years BUT that said I can only think things have been compounded since I left.

   The main housing issues in london is [a] the lack of good quality and reasonable rental properties, then you add in the fact that a lot of the council houses / flats went up for sale to the tenants thus taking them off the market for ever, the monies raised from the sale of these properties was meant to be ringed and yet the rebuilding of council properties all but came to a grinding halt, it costs a fortune to place a person in temporary shelter some times for many years whilst they await their turn on the list.

   So look to address the rebuilding issues of houses that have been sold and whilst they are working on that programme you could address the issues of temporary housing and the sub standards of that side of things.

   1. too many people not enough housing resulting in number 2. housing is too expensive for many people. How can this be solved? building more housing that is affordable, instead of the housing currently being built which is all executive apartments and is beyond the reach of most Londoners. The layout of new housing projects is also a problem - in some instances new housing just creates new estates, encouraging crime and reducing the appeal of the area to those looking for housing.
