What is the weather like in London during August? I’m going this summer for my sister’s wedding and I’m not sure what clothes I should pack. Thanks!

Make sure you pack a raincoat because it rains a lot in London.

Pack rain gear for sure and lots of hoodies and sweaters. The weather can be quite chilly almost anytime of year especially in the evenings. From what I’ve seen, shorts are not worn that often even by the younger crowd. For the wedding, pack a wrap, shawl or jacket for dressy wear.Take comfortable shoes if you’re going to sightsee. The tube has lots of stairs.

Its summer time the weather will be beautiful. Think sun dresses and shorts. It does rain sometimes but usually its just a shower.
I wouldn’t bring too many clothes remember London is one of the fashion capitals of the world and you can pick up some real bargains.
Have fun

Right, now time for an answer from a Londoner born and bred who knows whats she’s talking about!
First of all, forget the stereotypes of London. It really doesn’t rain that much. For about the last five years we’ve been in a drought and haven’t been so much as able to water our gardens - get the point? You might get the odd shower in August but it will likely be only brief. In fact, August tends to be our hottest month. Admittedly last summer wasn’t great, but in August temperatures can easily get into the 30’s (I’m talking celsius here; sorry but we don’t work in fahrenheit).
I’d say dress for hot whether and bring some layers which you can throw on if we get a couple of chilly days. A pashmina can be used for any cold days and will be great with your wedding outfit. And please don’t listen to the person above who says we don’t wear shorts (!). We’re not going to swelter in the heat in trousers! We do wear shorts (and flip flops, and strappy tops, and all of those things Americans who have never been here say we don’t wear) but, as with all of our clothes, they tend to be more tailored and fashionable.
